Nestled in the beautiful medieval village of Dunster, Somerset, The Stags Head is a charming and historic 15th-century pub located on West Street, said to be the oldest part of Dunster.
If you know the 'Stags', you will know we are proud to be a proper Dunster Pub. We are not a restaurant (far too serious for us). We are a pub first, always. We are a pub that happens to serve home-cooked food, from small plates to share, or something heartier if you fancy. Whether you are from our lovely village, walking or on a break, or someone who has heard the rumour that 'The Stags is worth the drive, then pop in and see what we are about.
Families are welcome, and dogs are adored. We are The Stags, relaxed, a bit cheeky, but always happy to see you.
After a day of sightseeing or hiking, unwind in our dog-friendly traditional pub, where a warm atmosphere and friendly locals await you. Enjoy a pint of local ale or sip on your favourite drink, as you recount the day's adventures by our crackling fireplace.
The history of The Stags Head dates back centuries, harking back to the medieval era when Dunster was a bustling market town and an essential stop for travellers and merchants navigating the ancient trade routes of Somerset. Originally established as a coaching inn in the late 14th century, our establishment has played a crucial role in providing respite and sustenance to weary travellers throughout the ages.
The Stags Head is ideally situated to explore the picturesque village of Dunster, with its medieval castle, cobbled streets, and charming shops. Step back in time as you wander through this well-preserved slice of history. Additionally, the beautiful coastline, Exmoor National Park, and various historic sites are within easy reach, making The Stags Head the perfect base for your Somerset adventures.
